TikTok for business comes down to three things: knowing who you reach there, having the account and the rules in order from the first video, and making every video lead somewhere. This guide covers all three, with Swedish figures and TikTok’s own rules.
Two rules are easy to miss. A business account cannot use the popular tracks in TikTok’s regular music library, and a video in which you promote your own business must be labelled as advertising. Both are covered further down, along with what the account costs, how many hashtags are about right and where TikTok Shop stands in Sweden.
As of 15 October 2026. TikTok changes features and rules often, so everything about the platform is dated. The sources are listed at the end.
TikTok in Sweden in 2026: who is actually there
According to Svenskarna och internet 2026, the Swedish Internet Foundation’s annual survey, 22 percent of internet users in Sweden have used TikTok in the past year, 17 percent use it every week and 15 percent daily. The share has stayed at 22 percent since 2024. For comparison, 46 percent use Instagram and 45 percent Facebook every day.
For a business, age is what decides it:
| Group in Sweden | Used TikTok in the past year | Uses TikTok daily |
|---|---|---|
| Born in the 2000s | 69 % | 52 % |
| Born in the 1990s | 27 % | 15 % |
| Born in the 1980s | 10 % | 5 % |
| Born in the 1970s | 12 % | 6 % |
| Born in the 1960s | 7 % | 4 % |
| Born in the 1950s | 5 % | 2 % |
| Children and young people aged 8–19 | 50 % | 42 % |
| Adults aged 20 and over | 16 % | 9 % |
Among upper secondary school students, 81 percent have used TikTok. Women use the platform slightly more than men, 24 against 19 percent. At the same time, the share among children and young people aged 8–19 has fallen, from 64 percent in 2022 to 50 percent in 2026. The base is internet users aged 8 and over in Sweden, and the answers were collected in January 2026.
The conclusion for a business: if you sell to young people, especially upper secondary students and those born in the 2000s, TikTok is one of your main channels. If your customers were born in the 1960s, 70s or 80s, you will only reach a small share of them on TikTok, and the same video may reach more of them as a Reel on Instagram, which 66 percent of internet users in Sweden have used in the past year.

Why other figures are higher
If you read that several million Swedes are on TikTok, the figure most likely comes from the ad tool. DataReportal states that TikTok’s ads could reach 3.51 million people aged 18 and over in Sweden in autumn 2025, 41.2 percent of adults. That is a figure from TikTok’s ad tools for how many people its ads can reach, not a survey of how many use the app, and it cannot be compared directly with Svenskarna och internet.
Should your business be on TikTok?
In short, yes, if your customers are young, what you do makes sense on video and you can film every week. If most of your customers were born before 1990, or your Google profile and website are still weak, our view is that Instagram, Facebook and Google will give you more for the same time. The four-question decision model is in Do local businesses need to be on TikTok?
A TikTok business account: what it offers and what it costs
TikTok has three account types: general accounts (also called personal accounts), verified business accounts and organisation accounts. Organisation accounts are not available everywhere and can only be created from certain TikTok business platforms, such as the TikTok Shop Seller Center. For most businesses in Sweden, the choice is therefore between the first two.
TikTok says anyone whose primary goal is to promote their business, a product or a service should use a business account. If someone also wants to post personal content, TikTok recommends two separate accounts.
What the business account offers
- A profile link straight away. A general account needs at least 1,000 followers to add a website link. A verified business account can do it from the start.
- Contact details on the profile. Only verified business accounts can show an address, email or phone number on their public profile.
- Links in posts. A verified business account can attach links to individual posts, not just to the profile. TikTok calls them organic conversion anchors.
- The Business Suite. Analytics for posts, followers and LIVE, a leads manager and the Creative Hub, where you can search popular content and find inspiration.
- Enquiries and automatic replies. TikTok describes lead forms with buttons such as Get quote and Sign up, and automatic messages such as welcome messages and keyword replies. According to TikTok, verified business accounts may have access to these features, so check what is available in your account.
- Only the Commercial Music Library. The account has no access to the general music library. More on that under the rules below.
Promote, TikTok’s tool for paying for wider reach, and LIVE are available to both account types. To go LIVE you must be at least 18 and have at least 1,000 followers, and TikTok says the follower requirement varies between regions.

How to switch and verify the business
- Tap Profile at the bottom of the app.
- Tap Menu ☰ and select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account and then Business verification.
- Follow the steps and submit the business information and documents.
According to TikTok, verification can take up to five business days, and the documents required vary between countries. Verifying the business is a separate process from applying for TikTok’s verified badge.
Don’t switch back and forth between account types. TikTok does not save the verification, so you will have to do it again. If TikTok asks you to verify the business and you don’t, the account can also be converted into a general account. Create the account in the business’s name and with an email address the business owns, so that it doesn’t depend on a single employee.
What it costs
Nothing. TikTok says setting up a business account is free of charge and takes a few seconds, and we have found no fee for verification in TikTok’s help pages. Businesses can use the music in the Commercial Music Library without obtaining their own licences.
What costs money is advertising and time. With Promote you set the total budget, how long the campaign runs and who it should reach, and you must be at least 18 to use the tool. How advertising on TikTok works more broadly is covered on our page about TikTok advertising, in Swedish. Even so, the biggest cost is often time: filming, editing, captioning and posting every week.
The rules for businesses: music, ad disclosure and more
The rules apply from the first video. Two of them are easy to miss: music and ad disclosure.
Music: only the Commercial Music Library
Verified business accounts only have access to the Commercial Music Library. The tracks there are pre-cleared for commercial use. According to TikTok, the tracks in the general library are restricted to personal entertainment use only.
The rule follows the purpose, not the account type. TikTok says businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial purposes and should use the Commercial Music Library for all commercial activity: regular posts, ads and branded content. Posting the business’s videos from a personal account to get at a trending track therefore solves nothing.
Original sound is fine: voices, talking, machines and tools. Turn off the music on the premises when you film, or the track ends up in the video.
Ad disclosure: the setting and the word reklam
TikTok’s Community Guidelines, in the version in force from 24 September 2026, require you to disclose content when you promote your own business, product or service. Before you post, turn on Disclose commercial content and choose Your brand. The post then gets a commercial content label. You can also turn the setting on for a video that is already live.
According to TikTok, undisclosed content may get reduced visibility or be labelled by TikTok, and repeated failure to disclose can lead to a temporary posting restriction or the loss of the account.
Swedish law says the same thing in other words. All marketing must be designed so that it is clear that it is marketing (the Swedish Marketing Practices Act, marknadsföringslagen, section 9). The Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket) says the starting point is that all posts a business publishes about its own products are covered, that advertising posts on social media should be labelled with the Swedish word “reklam” (advertising), and that this must be clear even at a glance. So write Reklam first in the caption, or on screen in the first few seconds. The setting complements the word, it does not replace it. For serious breaches, according to Konsumentverket, a business can be ordered to pay a penalty of up to four percent of its annual turnover.
Not sure whether a tips video counts? Label everything that shows your services, products, prices, available slots or offers, and you won’t have to draw the line video by video.
If you work with a creator who shows your products in return for payment or free goods, that counts as branded content. The creator then turns on the Branded content option, and the video is labelled with reklam. According to Konsumentverket, the business cannot contract its way out of responsibility for the labelling. In February 2026, Konsumentverket found continued major shortcomings in marketing through influencers, and the agency wants marketing aimed at children and young people to have a prominent place in its supervision.
People on camera, prices and competitions
- Customers and staff on camera. Under Swedish law, a business may not use another person’s name or image in marketing without their consent, and the ban also applies to employees and others publishing on the business’s behalf (the Act on Names and Images in Advertising, lagen om namn och bild i reklam, section 1). So you also need consent from the staff who appear on camera. Ask before you film, keep a written yes and remove the video if someone changes their mind. How this works in practice is shown in TikTok ideas for salons.
- Prices. If you mention a price in a video aimed at consumers in Sweden, it must be the final price, including VAT. That is how the Swedish Price Information Act (prisinformationslagen) defines a price to consumers (section 2).
- Competitions and giveaways. In Sweden, a giveaway where nobody has to buy anything to take part needs no licence (the Gambling Act, spellagen, chapter 3, section 4). If participants must buy something and chance decides who wins, it generally counts as a lottery that requires a licence, and according to the Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen), only non-profit associations working for the public good may run lotteries for money or money’s worth. Competitions decided by performance, such as best photo, fall outside the Gambling Act but under the Marketing Practices Act. Label the competition as reklam.
- No bait for followers. TikTok treats like-for-like promises and false incentives for following as attempts to trick people into engagement, and such videos are ineligible for the For You feed.
AI, editing and other people’s material
TikTok requires you to label content where AI or significant editing shows realistic-looking people or scenes, for example when a face is replaced, someone appears to say something they didn’t, or a person or object is added or removed in a misleading way. You can use TikTok’s AI-generated content setting or your own clear caption, sticker or watermark. Colour correction, cropping and generic text-to-speech narration do not need a label. Using a private person’s likeness in AI content without consent is not allowed.
Content that is copied, reposted without creative edits, stitched together from other people’s material without adding anything, or carries someone else’s visible watermark may be removed from the For You feed, according to TikTok. Film it yourselves. If the same video also goes on Instagram, upload the original file to both apps instead of a downloaded video with the other app’s watermark.
Industries with special rules
Under TikTok’s Community Guidelines, alcohol, tobacco and vaping, medicines, gambling, invasive cosmetic procedures, restricted medical services and high-risk financial services, among others, may as a general rule not be marketed or sold on the platform. For alcohol, gambling, over-the-counter drugs, invasive cosmetic procedures and restricted medical services, exceptions exist in some regions, for verified business accounts and TikTok Shop sellers that meet TikTok’s standards. Documentary or educational content about such goods and services is allowed.
By restricted medical services, TikTok means services that involve diagnosing or treating a physical or mental health condition where an official licence is required to operate. Our interpretation is that dental care and physiotherapy, for example, may be covered. If you run a clinic, or a restaurant where the bar is a large part of the business, read the rule before you build the account around it. Brand partnerships with creators covering alcohol, financial services, medicines, vitamin supplements and gambling, among others, are also not allowed in Sweden under TikTok’s Branded Content Policy.
Videos that hold attention: hook, format and people
How far a video travels depends mainly on how viewers respond to it. According to TikTok’s description of its recommendations, the For You feed is based on what viewers do: whether they watch to the end, like, comment, save or swipe away. TikTok advises creators to keep watch time up by trimming lulls and using quick cuts.
- Hook first. TikTok advises creators to include something that sparks interest within the first five seconds. For ads, the advice is to show what the video is about within three seconds and put the hook within six. Start with the result, the question or the unexpected, not an introduction.
- Vertical format. TikTok’s advice for ad videos is vertical 9:16 at a minimum of 720p, and according to the Creator Academy you can also use horizontal video in full-screen mode. Keep the important part in the centre, so the app’s buttons don’t cover it.
- People and a simple style. In its advice for ads, TikTok recommends showing people, such as employees or customers, and a style that isn’t overly polished, so the video fits in with what users post themselves. According to the Creator Academy, both a phone and professional equipment can produce good videos.
- A story. TikTok advises structuring the video like a story with a beginning, a middle and an end. That works even in 20 seconds: the problem, the work and the result.
- On-screen text and captions. TikTok cites its own survey in which over 30 percent of respondents said they watch with the sound off and rely on captions. TikTok gives neither a year nor a country.
- Length follows content. TikTok gives no right length and advises letting it follow the content. A tutorial can take longer, a quick look at a result less.
Hashtags and keywords on TikTok
The For You feed is not the only way to a video. TikTok says a video that doesn’t make it to For You can still be found through search or on the account, and that search values relevance over views and engagement. So to be seen by someone searching for your service, you don’t need a viral video, just one that is clearly about what they are looking for.
How many hashtags?
Two or three, according to TikTok. In the Creator Academy, TikTok says that when it comes to hashtags, less is more, and recommends two or three relevant ones per video (updated 18 August 2026). TikTok also says a long list of hashtags won’t help a video rank higher in search, and that loosely related keywords and hashtags can work against you.
In August 2025, Social Media Today and MediaPost reported that the app stops users who try to add more than five hashtags, with the message “Maximum 5 hashtags” according to MediaPost. TikTok has not officially confirmed a limit, and we have not found it in the help centre. With two or three hashtags, it makes no difference.
Keywords that help
- Say and write what the video is about. TikTok advises using relevant keywords in the video, the subtitles and the caption, and letting the title and cover show the topic.
- Write the way customers search. “Tyre change while you wait” says more than “Busy day at the garage”.
- Include the place when it matters. Someone searching for a service nearby sees straight away that it’s you.
- No keyword lists. TikTok warns against stuffing text or on-screen captions with unrelated keywords. It can get the video flagged for spam, and TikTok says it hurts the video’s traffic.
A caption for a car repair garage could look like this (in Sweden, starting with the word Reklam):
Reklam. The brake pads were down to the metal. Here’s how to tell when it’s time to replace them. Car repairs in [town], drop-in on weekdays. #brakes #carrepair #[town]
From view to customer
A video that many people see but nobody acts on hasn’t done its job. Seven things connect TikTok with bookings and enquiries:
- The profile says what, where and how. According to TikTok, the name and bio matter most for traffic to the profile. For example: “Car repairs in [town]. Drop-in on weekdays. Book via the link.”
- The link goes straight to the right page. The booking page, the quote form or the product page, not the home page. TikTok recommends direct links so viewers get to the right place in a few steps. Links that open other social media apps are not supported.
- The best videos are pinned at the top. TikTok advises pinning the videos that best show what the account is about, so anyone visiting the profile understands straight away.
- Every sales video ends with the next step. Say what it is, what it costs and how to book, and write the same thing on screen.
- Replies the same day. A question about prices or available slots in the comments is often a customer waiting. With a business account you can set up welcome messages and automatic replies to common questions.
- The same details everywhere. Name, address, opening hours and services should match across TikTok, your Google profile and your website.
- Customers are measured, not views. Ask “How did you find us?” at booking or at the till. Tag the profile link with UTM parameters, for example
?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=profile, so visits from the profile show up in your analytics tool.
Don’t let TikTok become your only channel. The reach there is rented, because the platform controls the feed and the rules. Your website and Google profile are what you own, and that is where the videos should lead.
TikTok Shop in Sweden: the situation in October 2026
TikTok Shop, where customers buy directly in the app, is not available in Sweden. It is available in 13 EU countries and the UK, according to TikTok’s seller page and its transparency report of 31 August 2026, and TikTok has not announced a date for Sweden or the Nordics.
Here is what you can do from Sweden today:
- short videos that lead to your own online store via the profile link
- LIVE streams where the purchase happens in your own store, from age 18 and 1,000 followers
- ads that lead to your own website
How TikTok Shop works is explained in What is TikTok Shop?, which countries have it in Where is TikTok Shop available?, and how a store can be prepared in TikTok Shop and Sweden. We also compare it with Instagram in TikTok Shop vs Instagram Shopping and go through the requirements for selling in a Shop country in Selling on TikTok Shop in Germany from Sweden.
The algorithm and posting rhythm in brief
Four things are enough to understand how TikTok picks videos for the For You feed:
- Viewer behaviour drives it. The system starts from what the viewer has recently watched, finished, liked, skipped, commented on or saved. It then estimates how likely they are to like, share, comment on or skip a new video.
- Location plays a part. TikTok takes into account where the viewer is and the region in which a video was posted. One of the rules in the final step is that the feed should include videos from creators in the viewer’s region.
- Followers are not a direct factor. TikTok says neither follower count nor previous high-performing videos are direct factors in its recommendations. A new account can therefore reach people.
- Variety is built in. The system replaces videos that are too similar, so the feed stays varied.
On rhythm, TikTok says there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Our view for a local business is two or three videos a week that you can keep up for a quarter, and at least one a week. Where in TikTok Studio you can see when your followers are active, and how much the time of day matters on TikTok, is covered in Best time to post and how often.
Ideas to start with
Five types of video can be made in almost any business, because they show what customers don’t otherwise see:
- The work from start to finish. A job, a dish or a repair in 20–40 seconds, with the result first.
- The answer to a common question. A question you get every week, answered by the person who knows the answer.
- Don’t do this. A mistake you see often, and what the customer can do instead.
- The people. One employee, one speciality and something they enjoy about the job.
- What’s happening now. Available slots, something new or the coming season, labelled as advertising.

Getting help with TikTok
Filming, editing, captioning and posting every week takes time that would otherwise go to customers. With us, TikTok is part of Premium: Reels and TikTok content and video every month. We plan, film, edit and caption, and adapt each video to the channel. Premium builds on Plus, with 8 posts a month on Instagram and Facebook, a photo visit every quarter and a monthly follow-up. The foundation includes a website, hosting, local SEO and a review of your Google profile.
We produce the material from your business. If you are more than about an hour’s travel from Uppsala or Stockholm, the photo visit becomes a guided photo session over video. You approve everything before it is published, and the accounts are yours. There is no set-up fee, no lock-in and one month’s notice. Replying to comments and messages is not included and is quoted separately and in plain text. The ad budget for TikTok is not included either, and we take no percentage of it.
How we work is described on our social media page, and what social media help costs overall is compared in What does social media help cost?
Frequently asked questions
How much does a TikTok business account cost?
Nothing. TikTok says setting up a business account is free of charge, and we have found no fee for verifying the business in TikTok’s help pages. Businesses can use the music in the Commercial Music Library without obtaining their own licences. What costs money is advertising, for example the Promote tool in the app, where you set the budget yourself, and the time it takes to film, edit and post. As of October 2026.
Does a business need a business account on TikTok?
Yes, if you mainly use TikTok to promote the business. That is TikTok’s own recommendation, and if someone also wants to post personal content, TikTok recommends two separate accounts. A verified business account can add a link to its profile straight away, show its address, email and phone number and use the Business Suite with analytics and leads, but it only has access to the Commercial Music Library. You switch under Settings and privacy, Account and Business verification, and verification can take up to five business days.
How many hashtags should you use on TikTok?
Two or three relevant hashtags per video. That is what TikTok recommends in its Creator Academy, and TikTok also says a long list of hashtags does not help a video rank higher in search. In August 2025, Social Media Today and MediaPost reported that the app stops at five hashtags, but TikTok has not officially confirmed a limit. As of October 2026.
Can businesses use popular music on TikTok?
No, not in marketing. According to TikTok, businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial purposes, and verified business accounts only have access to the Commercial Music Library, whose tracks are pre-cleared for commercial use. Posting the video from a personal account does not help. Original sound, such as voices and the sounds of the business, is fine as long as no music can be heard in the background.
Do a business’s TikTok videos have to be labelled as advertising?
Yes, when they promote the business. TikTok’s Community Guidelines, in the version in force from 24 September 2026, require you to turn on the commercial content disclosure setting when promoting your own business, product or service. Under Swedish marketing law it must be clear that something is marketing, and the Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket) says advertising posts on social media should be labelled with the word reklam and that this must be clear even at a glance. In Sweden, write Reklam first in the caption.
How do you market a business on TikTok?
For free, by posting your own videos that show the business, with a clear hook at the start, a caption that says what the video is about and where you are, two or three relevant hashtags and a profile that leads straight to booking or the website. Our view is that two or three videos a week that you can keep up for a quarter is a reasonable start. If you pay, you can give a video wider reach with Promote in the app or run ads through TikTok’s advertising tools.
How many people in Sweden use TikTok?
According to Svenskarna och internet 2026, 22 percent of internet users aged 8 and over in Sweden have used TikTok in the past year, 17 percent weekly and 15 percent daily. Among children and young people aged 8–19 the share is 50 percent, and among adults aged 20 and over 16 percent. 69 percent of people born in the 2000s have used TikTok, but only 10 percent of those born in the 1980s and 12 percent of those born in the 1970s. The answers were collected in January 2026.
Is TikTok Shop available in Sweden?
No. As of October 2026, TikTok Shop is available in 13 EU countries and the UK, according to TikTok’s seller page and its transparency report of 31 August 2026, but not in Sweden, and TikTok has not announced a date for Sweden or the Nordics. Swedish businesses can link from TikTok to their own online store today.
