Ask what a website costs in Sweden and you will find answers from a few hundred kronor a year to tens of thousands. Both can be right. The difference lies in who builds it, what is included and how long you are tied in.
Here are the price levels for four ways of getting a website, what you pay every month afterwards and the traps that most often make a low price expensive. We name the big platforms, with prices and sources. Swedish web agencies and directory companies are described as types, with the price ranges we found on their own pages. This article is about what it costs to get a website. Whether to show your own prices on it is covered in Prices on the website, or not?
As of 20 October 2026. The platforms’ prices were read on their pricing pages on 20 October 2026, and the web agencies’ and directory companies’ on 19 October 2026. Prices are in Swedish kronor (SEK) unless stated otherwise. Prices change, and we update the article when they do.
How much does a website cost? Four ways to buy one
What decides the price most is the model: do you build it yourself, rent the site by the month, buy it once or order a larger build? This is what the levels look like in Sweden.
| Model | Price | Lock-in | Who owns what |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build it yourself with Wix, Squarespace, Webnode or one.com | SEK 45–460 a month, EUR 14–149 with Wix. Lower with annual billing or in the first year | A month or a year in advance, often with automatic renewal | You have the account and the content. The site is built in the platform’s tools and stays there |
| Subscription from a web agency | Usually SEK 990–1,695 a month for a custom design, SEK 79–749 for template-based sites | From none to 36 months. With no setup fee, often 12–36 months | The domain is usually yours. The code often stays with the agency or becomes yours after 18–36 months |
| Subscription from a web host or directory company | SEK 299–1,369 a month, sometimes with a setup fee | 6–24 months, often with automatic renewal | Varies. Read what the contract says about the domain and content |
| One-off build by a web agency | SEK 7,995–24,900 in published packages, plus maintenance or an hourly rate for changes | Rarely for the build itself. The maintenance contract has its own terms | Domain and content usually yours. Ask about the code and templates |
| Larger custom build with booking, logins or integrations | Quote | As per the contract | Write ownership and moving the site into the contract |
Prices exclude VAT where the page says so. Swedish VAT (moms) is 25 per cent on almost all goods and services. About a third of the agencies’ and directory companies’ pricing pages did not say whether the price included VAT.
The table compares models, not equivalent services. A builder at SEK 175 a month and a subscription at SEK 1,500 rarely include the same thing: with one you do all the work yourself, with the other someone else does it.

Building it yourself: what do Wix, Squarespace, Webnode and one.com cost?
Cheapest in kronor, but you do the work. The website builders cost SEK 45–460 a month for their standard plans, and you are responsible for the text, images, structure and updates.
| Platform | Price per month | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | Light EUR 14, Core 25, Business 34 and Business Elite 149 | For annual plans paid in advance, excluding tax. Wix shows prices in euros in Sweden. The domain is free for the first year |
| Squarespace | Basic SEK 175, Core 250 and Advanced 320 with annual billing. SEK 250, 360 and 460 with monthly billing | VAT is not stated. With annual billing the domain is free for the first year and then renews at the standard rate |
| Webnode | Mini SEK 63, Standard 99 and Pro 179 with annual billing. SEK 109, 189 and 309 with monthly billing | Excluding tax. Renews automatically if you pay by card or PayPal, with an email beforehand. The domain is included in the first year |
| one.com, the Aida website builder | SEK 45, 59 and 115 in the first year. Then SEK 139, 199 and 299 | Excluding VAT, one-year subscription. The second year costs 2.6–3.4 times as much as the first |
| Shopify, for an online shop | Basic SEK 269, Grow 729 and Advanced 3,180 with annual billing. SEK 359, 970 and 4,240 with monthly billing | Online card fee of 1.4–1.6 per cent plus SEK 1.85 per payment, depending on the plan. VAT is not stated |
What the price does not show is the work. You write the text, choose or take the photos, make sure Google understands the site and keep it up to date. What a page that creates customers needs is covered in The website that actually creates customers, and how it works on mobile in Mobile adaptation that actually works.
In our assessment, a builder works well when someone in the business has the time and inclination to look after the site. It works less well when the site needs to bring in enquiries and nobody has time to keep it updated.
A website on subscription: monthly fee, setup fee and lock-in
A subscription spreads the cost over time, and someone else builds and maintains the site. The big difference between the offers is rarely the monthly price. It is the lock-in period.
- Web agencies with custom design usually charge SEK 990–1,695 a month, and packages with more content SEK 2,495–4,500. Several of them charge no setup fee but lock you in for 12–36 months. With some, the monthly price gets lower the longer you commit.
- Template-based services cost SEK 79–749 a month. This is mostly where we found offers with no lock-in, sometimes with a setup fee of SEK 1,499–6,999.
- Directory companies, the Swedish equivalents of the yellow pages, also sell websites on subscription, for SEK 299–1,369 a month with a lock-in of 6–24 months. With some, a longer lock-in gives a lower monthly price.
- one.com Managed Website is built for you for SEK 499, 699, 899 or 1,135 a month excluding VAT, with a one-year subscription and a setup fee with no amount given. The page’s FAQ says such a website starts from EUR 39.99 a month with a one-off fee of EUR 399.
Once the lock-in period has ended, the notice period is usually one month, sometimes three.
The subscription usually includes hosting and a set number of changes. With the web agencies we read, this ranged from one to ten changes a month or one hour a month, and with one.com from 2 to 12 changes a year depending on the package. Ask what counts as a change and what it costs once they are used up.
Buying a website from a web agency: what does a one-off build cost?
In the packages with a published price that we found, a one-off build costs SEK 7,995–24,900. A maintenance contract or an hourly rate for changes often comes on top. In one of the packages, maintenance cost SEK 790–990 a month.
What is included varies: the number of pages, whether the text is written for you, whether photos are included and how many rounds of changes you get. One of the agencies had no mandatory monthly fee after the build, and there the customer owned the domain, content and data while the agency kept the source code and templates.
A one-off build suits you when you want to own the site from the start and know who will keep it updated. In our assessment it becomes expensive when the site is then left untouched, because it stops answering what customers are asking. What a service page needs to keep being useful is covered in How to write a service page that sells.
Larger custom builds: when it is quoted
If you need booking, logins, a customer portal, integrations with other systems or a larger online shop, it is a project that gets quoted. We have not found any published fixed prices that can be compared at this level.
Ask for a quote that separates the build, the licences and the running costs. Also write into the contract who owns the code and what it costs to move the site. For an online shop on Shopify, Shopify’s monthly fee and card fees come on top, see the table above. How we work with online shops is described on our services page.
How much does a website cost per month? Domain, hosting, email and updates
Expect four running costs. With builders and subscriptions they are often included in the first year, and after that they become separate items.
- Domain. A .se domain, the Swedish country domain, costs SEK 9 for the first year at one.com and then SEK 269 a year. Wix and Webnode give you the domain free for the first year, and Squarespace does so with annual billing. After that they charge for it.
- Hosting. At one.com, hosting costs SEK 29–99 a month in the first year and SEK 79–299 a month on renewal, excluding VAT, with email accounts and the domain in the first year. Hosting is included in the builders and in most subscriptions.
- Email on your own domain. Often included with the hosting, at one.com with 1–25 email accounts depending on the package. If you want your email with Google, Google Workspace Starter costs EUR 6.80 per user per month with a one-year commitment.
- Updates. Included in varying amounts in the subscriptions. After a one-off build you pay for maintenance or by the hour. In one of the packages we read, maintenance cost SEK 790–990 a month.
VAT is 25 per cent on almost all goods and services, according to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). If your business is VAT-registered, you can in most cases deduct the VAT, and then the price excluding VAT is your real cost. If you sell services that are exempt from VAT, such as healthcare, you normally cannot deduct it, and then the price including VAT is what counts.
What is a reasonable price for a website?
A reasonable price is one where you know the total cost, what you get for it and what it costs to leave. That is our assessment, and it means comparing the total over the same period, not the monthly price.
Total cost = setup fee + monthly fee × number of months + renewal increases + domain + email + changes not included
A worked example with round figures within the ranges we found, not prices from any particular company:
| Over three years, excluding VAT | Subscription | One-off build |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | SEK 0 | SEK 15,000 |
| Per month | SEK 1,000 | SEK 800 for maintenance |
| Total after 36 months | SEK 36,000 | SEK 43,800 |
In the example, the one-off build costs more over three years, but then you own the site. If you make the changes yourself or pay by the hour, it may come out cheaper instead. What decides it is the rest: what is included each month, whether you can leave when you want and who owns the site afterwards.
A good price for you also depends on what the site needs to do. If it is meant to bring in enquiries, it needs text that answers customers’ questions, a clear route to getting in touch and someone who keeps it up to date. Having a site does not mean it gets found, and we explain the difference in The difference between having a website and being found. Customers also often see your Google profile before your website, see Google Business for local businesses.
The traps: lock-ins, renewals, setup fees and ownership
Lock-in periods of 12–36 months
Several subscription agencies lock you in for 12–36 months, often combined with no setup fee, and the directory companies for 6–24 months. In practice the lock-in is an amount. At SEK 1,000 a month with a 36-month lock-in, you have committed to paying SEK 36,000 excluding VAT, unless the contract says otherwise.
Automatic renewal
Many contracts extend themselves unless you cancel in time. At one.com, subscriptions run for 12 months at a time and renew automatically. The cancellation must arrive at least 30 days before the end of the period, otherwise the next 12 months must be paid, and the unused part of an advance payment is not refunded. Webnode renews automatically if you paid by card or PayPal and sends an email beforehand. Put the last day for cancelling in your calendar on the day you sign.
The renewal price
The low price often only applies in the first year. At one.com, the smallest hosting package costs SEK 348 for the first year and SEK 948 on renewal. Across all the hosting and website builder packages, the second year costs 2.6–4.4 times as much as the first, and a .se domain goes from SEK 9 to SEK 269 a year. So compare the price for the second year, not just the first.
The setup fee you cannot see
At one.com, every Managed Website package says ”+ Startavgift” (plus setup fee), with no amount. The example in the page’s FAQ is EUR 399. Among the web agencies, setup fees of SEK 1,499–6,999 occur, including with those that have no lock-in. Ask for the amount before you compare monthly prices.
Who owns the website and the domain?
The domain should be in your business’s name. According to the Swedish Internet Foundation (Internetstiftelsen), which runs .se, whoever registers a domain name becomes the holder of the domain and may use it for as long as it is paid for and the rules are followed. Payment in itself does not give ownership, and incorrect contact details can mean you lose the domain. If the agency is registered as the holder, it is the agency that has the right to use it.
With the site itself, it varies more. With the web agencies we read, the domain was usually the customer’s, while the design and code often stayed with the agency. With some, the code becomes the customer’s after 18–36 months, and with others the site only exists as long as the subscription runs. About four in ten said nothing about ownership. one.com says the content and the domain belong to the customer, but that the domain must be registered with one.com for Managed Website to work.
What does it cost to leave?
Three things decide it: the rest of the lock-in period, what you are allowed to take with you and what happens to your data and email when you leave.
A worked example: if you pay SEK 1,000 a month with a 36-month lock-in and want to leave after 12 months, SEK 24,000 remains if the contract says the rest of the lock-in must be paid. If the code belongs to the agency, you also need a new site. Save your text and images before you cancel. At one.com, data from websites and email is usually deleted 7 days after the subscription has ended. You can move a .se domain to another registrar with an authorisation code from your current one, according to the Swedish Internet Foundation.
How vulnerable you become when a platform you do not control owns the channel is covered in Why you shouldn’t depend on Instagram or Bokadirekt alone.
What applies when you buy as a business in Sweden
- No right of withdrawal. The Swedish Distance Contracts Act protects consumers, and under the Act a consumer is a natural person acting mainly for purposes outside their business. If you buy the website for your business, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply.
- The National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN) only accepts complaints from consumers, so a dispute between two businesses over a website contract cannot be tried there.
- Unfair terms. Under the Swedish Act on Contract Terms between Businesses, the Patent and Market Court can prohibit a business from continuing to use an unfair term against other businesses, but only if it is called for in the public interest. An application can be made by a trade association or by the business the term was used against.
- VAT in the price. If an agency sells to consumers, the Swedish Price Information Act requires the price to be stated including VAT and other taxes. Prices to businesses are often stated excluding VAT.
This is a summary of the rules, not legal advice. Your own contract is what applies.
A web agency with no lock-in: eight questions before you sign
In our assessment, transparent pricing means you can work out the total yourself before you have spoken to anyone. Among the web agencies we read that build custom designs with no setup fee, a lock-in was more common than none. An explicit no lock-in was mostly offered by template-based services and SEO consultants.
How we price
We have two models. The prices exclude VAT and are the same wherever you are.
- Subscription. Basic SEK 995, Plus SEK 1,995 and Premium SEK 2,995 a month. Basic includes the website with hosting, a local SEO foundation, a review of your Google Business Profile, clear routes to booking and contact, and a foundation for AI visibility. Plus adds 8 posts a month on Instagram and Facebook and a photo visit every quarter. Premium adds Reels and TikTok content and video every month.
- Terms for the subscriptions. No setup fee, no lock-in and one month’s notice. You keep your price for as long as the agreement runs.
- Buy-out. After 6 months you can buy out the site for SEK 1,995. After 12 months the buy-out is free.
- Own your website. SEK 4,995 once (SEK 6,244 including VAT) for a site of up to 10 pages, with one round of proofing. After full payment you own the text, images and delivered files. Hosting is included for the first year, and after that you choose Hosting + small changes for SEK 199 a month (SEK 249 including VAT) or move the site. The domain is not included; you own it and pay for it yourself.
- Larger projects such as booking systems, logins and integrations are quoted, from SEK 15,000.
Ad budgets, custom development beyond the packages and external licences are not included. We quote them separately and in plain language before you say yes.
If you want to build and run the site yourself, a builder is cheaper than any of our packages. The packages in detail are on our pricing page and the terms for Own your website on our terms page. If you are looking for a web agency in Stockholm, the same prices apply, see Web agency in Stockholm. Frequently asked questions
How much does a website cost in Sweden?
From a few hundred kronor a year to tens of thousands, depending on the model. Website builders cost SEK 45–460 a month (Wix EUR 14–149), a subscription from a web agency usually SEK 990–1,695 a month for a custom design, and a one-off build SEK 7,995–24,900 in the packages we found. As of 20 October 2026.
What is a reasonable price for a website?
A reasonable price is one where you know the total, what is included and what it costs to leave. So compare what different options cost over the same period, for example three years, including the setup fee, the months, renewals, the domain and email, rather than comparing the monthly price.
How much does it cost to buy a website from a web agency?
In the packages with a published price that we found in October 2026, a one-off build cost SEK 7,995–24,900. Maintenance or an hourly rate for changes often comes on top, in one of the packages SEK 790–990 a month. Larger builds with booking, logins or integrations are quoted.
How much does a website cost per month?
Website builders cost SEK 45–460 a month, and a subscription from a web agency usually SEK 990–1,695 for a custom design. If you have bought the site outright, you pay instead for the domain, hosting, email and updates, and much of that is free in the first year and costs more afterwards.
Are there web agencies with no lock-in period?
Yes, but among the agencies we read that build custom designs with no setup fee, a lock-in of 12–36 months was more common. An explicit no lock-in was mostly offered by template-based services and SEO consultants. Synlighetsverket has no lock-in and one month’s notice.
Who owns the website and the domain?
The domain belongs to whoever is registered as its holder, according to the Swedish Internet Foundation, so make sure that is your business. Who owns the design and code is set out in the contract, and with many web agencies the code stays with the agency or only becomes yours after 18–36 months.
